Though The Century House has always supported the Audubon Society with our ½ mile nature trail perfect for bird-watching, as of recently, we've become official members of the society. As an environmentally focused group, Audubon aims to protect birds throughout the Americas by using on-the-ground conservation, education, and advocacy. What makes the trail special, besides it being a safe haven for wildlife, is its history. Since construction of the original farmhouse in 1890, The Century House had been surrounded by lush greenery. Even through the business’s growth and many expansions, the long time owners made it a priority to sustain the foliage on the property. Think you spotted gravestones on the trail? You would be correct. The gravestones found near the trail commemorate the Roffs, the family which farmed the land before the O’Hearns purchased the property. The nature trail is available to all guests, whether you are here for an event, staying overnight, or enjoying a delicious meal. Its unique history and beautiful scenery make it the perfect place for our guests to explore. If you want to sneak away from a corporate event or meeting, the winding walkway will be a great distraction. Going for a run or walking with a friend after lunch are also great ways to engage with a piece of The Century House’s history.
While it closes at dusk, the trail is also a breathtaking backdrop for any upstate New York wedding.The picturesque grounds of The Century House are the perfect spot for finding some wedding photography inspiration. Couples can pose around the lush-lined wooden planks of our walkway for a change in scenery.
