When you’ve been in the Capital Region as long as we have, you learn the best ways to enjoy Albany! The Century House is in the midst of all that’s great about living in the northeast, so we’ve put together a list of fun activities to help you savor September and enjoy every moment of your stay at our premiere hotel.
This season, opportunities for the whole family to have fun are at your fingertips! For starters, apple picking season is our first MUST. There’s no better way to summarize the Capital Region during fall than pumpkin picking, cider donuts, and rows and rows of apples! There are loads of orchards and farms in the capital region, so pick your favorite and prepare for picking!
The sky will literally be the limit for our next activity! If apple picking just isn’t at the top of your September/October to-do, take an excursion to Glen Falls and experience the Adirondack Balloon Festival (September 21st-24th). The stunning skyline will please all ages, and why not take a ride? When you’ve finally tuckered out, our hotel will be ready to relax you after your adventure.
For the Fall Foodie
You know you favorite fall flavors, so we’re setting you up to experience them all! Make your way across the river for Troy’s Chowder fest (October 8th). Only $1 per cup of soup so you can take your time and vote for all your favorites. Saratoga knows how to whip up some Chowder too, as they serve up soup later, in February! The Capital Region Apple and Wine Festival is also worth your while. An event set to satisfy kids and adults (from wine tastings to haunted houses) you’ll want to mark your calendar now! Apple cider donuts and delicious fall desserts can be sampled at many area apple orchards and pumpkin patches. Check out Octoberfest happening at Hunter Mountain throughout September and October. Though we know nothing can compete with our cuisine, an amazing day of activities can be found at any of these big autumn events!
Hello, Spooky Autumn Evenings
If you're in the mood for a good scare, kick off your night out at our Tavern and Restaurant, then check out some of our area's well-known activities like haunted hayrides, corn mazes, Fright Fest at the Great Escape, Field of Horrors in Troy, Nightmares at Liberty Ridge, or Zombie Zip Line at Mountain Ridge Adventure.
Music and Miscellaneous
Rounding out our Autumn in the Neighborhood recommendations, we’ve got the music infused festivals you won’t want to miss. Check out the Altamont Fall Festival, North Albany Oktoberfest, Harvest Fest and Art Show (Upper Union St., Schenectady), or the 2017 Pride Center Gala.
For something a bit different, the city of Troy transformed into the Enchanted City in celebration of its Steampunk Festival (September 15th-16th). The Riverfront Park kicked off the event with an Inventor’s Parade, with Victorian vendors, crafts, performances and fantasy. If you’re a frequent festivaler or if you’re unfamiliar with Steampunk, mark this one for next year's calendar.
Whether you're a spectator or avid runner, you won't want to miss the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Albany (Oct 7) or the Annual Troy Turkey Trot, a road race held on Thanksgiving morning in the downtown Troy!
Staying at the Century House means accessibility to all the Capital Region’s fall fun. You can reach our hotel at (518) 785-0931 to start booking your autumn in Albany...we know you won’t want to leave!
